GBS/ Nursery

I went to the doctor today to test for Group B Strep, and it turns out I'm positive for it. This is not a big deal or anything bad, they just need to know so they can treat it. Basically what it is is a bacterial infection that is found in about 25% of all women. It is harmless to me, but can be very harmful if passed onto the baby. So all they do is give me some penicillin at the hospital when I go into labor, and all should be fine. But this does mean that they don't feel comfortable stripping my membranes early anymore, since I'm now at a higher risk for infection. They will only do this if I pass my due date or if they see the baby is getting too much larger. But as of right now, she's on course to be about a 9 pound baby. They also said I have an advantage with my height, since taller women usually have wider hips, and that lowers my chances of having to get a C-Section. But this is all speculation as of now. They will not be able to know anything for sure until the baby is actually here. So all this is just supposed to keep us informed and is not predicting anything.

On another note, the nursery is now fully complete! I know everyone has seen it, but I wanted to put up some pictures so I can document this. I'm quite pleased with the way everything has come together! :)

35 weeks

I went to the doctor today to get an Ultrasound. I will be 35 weeks on Saturday, and when they measured me 2 weeks ago, I was measuring like I was 35 weeks then. The doctors weren't sure if I had some excess amniotic fluid, or if she was just a big baby, but I found out today that she's just a big baby! She was weighing at 6lbs 12 oz (from their estimation) and is measuring at 37 weeks. Some babies are born at this weight, and I still have 5 weeks to go!! At this rate, she should be around 9 1/2lbs or more if born on time. They scheduled another Ultrasound for me on September 30 to see how she's looking. They recommend if she is going to be 10lbs or more that I get a C-Section. It may be possible for me to deliver a big baby, but I don't want to be in labor for hours and pushing and trying, just to find out I'm getting a C-Section after all. I certainly don't prefer a C-Section, but the doctor said they would go over all my options with me so I can make an informed decision. I can always change my mind at the last minute, too. But they did reiterate that they will not induce labor, no matter how big they think she is. There have been many times they were wrong and the baby wasn't ready, so that is not an option. But they did say I will be at full term at 37 weeks, and then they can strip my membranes once a week. This can sometimes induce labor within a 24-48 hour period after it's done, but won't happen if she's not ready. And it apparently hurts pretty bad. But if there's a chance she can come a few weeks early, I'll take it! I went shopping today and got everything else we needed (the essentials anyway), so as soon as I pack my hospital bag, we are ready!! Now we play the waiting game...

Here's the baby with her face all scrunched up

Here she's sucking on the back of her hand

Here are her lady parts and our definite confirmation that she's a girl!!
